Hugh Roberts writes…

Having served as Churchwarden for 17 years I recently stood down from this role.  The congregation had very generously arranged a collection to mark my retirement but somewhat ironically, having not missed a Sunday service due to illness in my 17 years of office, I was unable to attend the presentation due to Covid!  I would however like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their generosity, not just for the collection for a gift but for the wonderful words of appreciation received over the last few weeks. You have made me feel very humble.

The role of Churchwarden at St Mary’s has given me immense pleasure and satisfaction and filled a space in my daily challenges following retirement from paid work.  I took over from Alan Kimpton in 2005 I have been most fortunate in having been part of a friendly, positive and supportive team. This strong foundation has proved absolutely necessary during the challenges of the last couple of years but from which we are now hopefully recovering

I started my duties under the watchful eye of David Bradnock, and I subsequently had the pleasure of working alongside Mike Powles and latterly Mike Parkes, as well as the Rector, Fr Patrick.

My deepest thanks are to the congregation at St Mary’s for allowing me to serve in this way.

Finally, I would like to congratulate and welcome Liz Kenny and wish her enjoyment in the role.
