Canon Patrick writes…
The organ project has suffered some frustrating delays first in securing a faculty, and then in getting back into the organ builder’s timetable after missing our slot. But in December 2025 a timetable was finally agreed and the contract signed. Bishops, the organ builders, have already started detailed design work and purchasing. Manufacturing is expected to start very soon.
A big milestone for us in Lapworth will come at the end of April when the existing organ will be removed to Bishop’s London site. We expect to have an electronic organ while the organ is away. In the late summer rebuilding will start here in Lapworth and we should have the renewed organ working by the end of October 2026.
We are delighted that internationally acclaimed organ recitalist, Colin Druce, has agreed to give a recital in St Mary’s Lapworth to say goodbye to the old organ. This will be on Saturday March 21st at 3.00pm. It will be followed by afternoon tea in the Old School. Colin’s recital will include Bach’s Gigue Fugue, possibly the most challengingly difficult piece he composed. All are welcome to the recital, which has free entry. There will be a retiring collection in aid of the organ fund. “Adopt a Pipe” forms will also be available. This scheme has proved very popular with more than 70 pipes already adopted. So do come along to hear a top class organist and to say goodbye to the old organ.
