Remembrance Sunday was observed on 10th November 2019. This year the Royal British Legion, Brownies, Guides and Rangers attended at St Mary’s Lapworth. (In even numbered years they attend at Rowington.) Every seat in the church was taken. Even the new children’s area had to be put back to seating for the service. This year we had a more informal sermon slot, which included a craft activity, making poppies, which was well supported by the Brownies. The poppies were displayed under the Easter Candle. The flower arrangements included some disturbing reminders of the First World War. Joyce Burn’s arrangement, just inside the door, had lost horseshoes at the bottom and rolls of barbed wire higher up. Pauline Holdback’s arrangement in front of the screen included a representation of a machine gun ammo belt on the left hand side.
