St Mary’s is delighted to have a band of dedicated bell ringers, supplemented by friends from neighbouring towers, serving our church.

THE BELLS OF ST MARY’S 

The tower of St Mary’s was built c. 1380 and since 1963 it has housed 6 bells:

(i) ‘John Taylor & Co Founders Loughborough, In memory of Alfred Melson (1852 – 1929)’, 1963

(ii) ‘Wm. Mears of London, fecit 1786’, recast by Taylors of Loughborough, 1963

(iii) ‘Bryanus Eldrige, me fecit 1656’ 

(iv) ‘Sancta Katarina Ora Pro Nobis’ [1440] 

(v) Hugh Watts of Leicester, ‘Praise the Lorde’, 1600 

(vi) ‘Wm. Mears late Lester Pack Chapman of London, fecit 1786’, recast by Taylor of Loughborough, 1963
